Having guests stay with you can be fun (seriously!) if you plan ahead. Yes, we all know to clean, plan meals, put out fresh towels and all that good stuff. But there is so much more that you can do to make their stay easier on them and you.
One quick project you can tackle today is to get out your labelmaker and label every switch in your house. You might think it's crazy, but it's one of the first things I did when I moved in to my current home. I kept turning on fans instead of lights or turning on the hall light when I meant to turn on the porch light. It got me thinking that if I have trouble in my own home, imagine what people feel who are just visiting and don't know their way around.
You'll realize what I mean when your guests get up early and try to "help" you by making coffee. Nothing says good morning like flipping on the garbage disposal and waking up everyone in the house. It doesn't have to be a total chore either - I had my 4 year old son help me by testing out all the switches and he had a blast. It gave us a new activity for an afternoon, plus he learned how to spell fan. Mommy multi-tasking at its best!
